As a member of a local SWAT team, I was looking to add a ropes capability to our team. Knowing that we don’t get to choose the venue of where incidents occur and it is only a matter of time before a hostage rescue happens on a 3rd story apartment or 7th floor hotel room, I began to look for a solution. I came across Tactical Ropes, gave them a chance, and I will never look back. I paid my own way to the class, and it has been the best money I have ever spent on training in my professional career. The lead instructor (Dan) is top notch. He is relatable, humble, safe, and a true expert and professional in his field. I went to the Tactical Ropes Access course with hopes to take the first step in building a program for my team. After the week of training, I left the with a full understanding of what a tactical ropes team actually is, how to move up, down, and sideways on ropes, how to build anchors systems, how to conduct several different rescues, and how to extract people from height. I completed the course in September 2025, and I am in in the final stages of launching a ropes program for our team in April 2026. Since the class, I have been able to utilize the techniques I learned to work through tactical problems including: port and cover missions, gas/diversion deployments, inserting technology, and hostage rescue entry all on rope. Dan has continued to assist me with all questions regarding ropes, and he always spends the time to answer in detail. Dan has used his 20+ years of ropes experience and has created not only a great program, but he has carefully selected gear to create his “On The Operator Kit”. All the gear in the kit serves multiple purposes, is light weight, and industry proven. The kit also solves the headache of spending months testing and searching through the thousands of products on the market.
